Close Encounters Back In Cinemas

Close Encounters of the Third Kind is coming back to cinemas to celebrate it’s 40th (yes 40th!) anniversary. The Steven Spielberg classic has been digitally remastered into 4K for the special edition. Seriously, 40 years?? I’m sure it was only a couple of weeks ago I bought the 30th anniversary edition! Anyway, the incredible sci-fi adventure will be hitting the silver screen again on 1st September with a 4K Blu-ray release following shortly after on the 19th.

Just recently there was a teaser trailer featuring audio from the movie, sparking some to postulate that a sequel might be on the way. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case and we’ll instead be treated to this shiny new version of the original.

For those of you that don’t know Close Encounters follows the story of Rory Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) as he struggles to understand something he saw in the night’s sky. He begins to lose his mind as images overtake his every thought. He loses his family but begins a quest to find out what is really going on. The film won all manner of awards for special effects that, even 40 years later haven’t dated badly at all. Much better than early CGI has that’s for sure. It also features an iconic score from movie music master John Williams.

This is an experience not to be missed especially of you have never seen it on the big screen. It truly is one of Spielberg’s best works. In the meantime here is the trailer for the new edition!
